Wireless World

Wireless World by Warm Digits came out on 4 August 2017, and it’s the Newcastle duo’s third album, as well as their first for Memphis Industries. It lands after a few strong records that saw them carving out a really intriguing niche in electronic and kraut‑inspired music. By this point Andrew Hodson and Steve Jefferis had sharpened their sound into something that feels both inventive and inviting, with this record representing a confident, fully realised snapshot of who they are as a band.

Sonically, Wireless World feels like a lively collision of driving rhythms, analogue warmth, and synth magic. There’s definitely a krautrock influence in the motorik beats and pulsing grooves, but it’s filtered through a fun, melodic lens that can feel almost euphoric at times. You’ll hear elements that nod to electronic pioneers like Kraftwerk and Moroder, but wrapped up in a way that’s lush and contemporary, with guest vocalists adding extra texture and colour.

Standout moments like “End Times” and the title track have this irresistible blend of funk, disco pulse and hypnotic electronics, while collaborations with Sarah Cracknell and Devon Sproule add playful twists that keep the album feeling fresh and unpredictable. Even when the themes brush up against more serious ideas about our tech‑driven world, the music never loses its momentum or joy.

What makes Wireless World worth revisiting is how it balances depth with sheer listenability. It’s rich and layered, but also fun and immediate, ready to reward both focused listens and background grooves. Whether you’re drawn to its rhythmic propulsions or the bright, kaleidoscopic electronic landscapes, it’s the kind of album that stays with you long after it finishes.
